Internet security software developers usually offer a free trial period for their software, which stops working after the trial period has ended. A few totally free personal firewall software products are available, but the "free-ness" could change at any time. Outpost Firewall - Agnitum Outpost Firewall. Free 30 day trial.

Zone Labs Zone Alarm Pro - Zone Alarm effectively protects your computer from attacks and intruders. Also stops email VB Script worms. The free edition is for personal use only. If you want the full featured Zone Alarm Pro, you'll have to buy it.

Filseclab Personal Firewall Professional Edition - One of the best free firewalls, but not the easiest to use. Very effective at preventing intruders and also can block some adware and spyware.

R-Firewall - R-Tools Technology - R Firewall protects against intrusions, attacks, trojans and spyware. Alto filters out inappropriate internet pages.

SafeZone Minute Personal Firewall - Minutegroup Software - Blocks hackers and unauthorized users. Protects from worm attacks, adware and spyware.
