A firewall scan identifies your IP address, which is public knowledge and completely save. Normally this is the outside address of your broadband router or modem. This information is needed in order to determine where to send the port scan probes to. Special port scanning software is used to quickly scan for opened ports on your firewall, looking for a way in. If a port is open or the traffic not adequately blocked by your firewall, information about your computer will be retrieved.
